As of March 2002 all I know is they're working their hineys off in other things - something about buying houses! Ahhh!
Where's all the rockers go?!?!?
Oh, well, there's always punk rock...
The latest news (as of Oct. 6, 2001) I've heard about Speeder is that they're still working on their upcoming release. And that's all I know, folks.
Hopefully I'll have a new photo for the next issue of unDeep, but as zines go we won't really know til it happens.
Preview Review, From Issue 3 (edited)
Most of you who know me know of my passion (obsession, whatever) and fascination with Scotland. This evolved into a love of the music, both traditional and indie-pop, that originates in Scotland. Consequently, it is absolutly impossible for me to do an issue of Un-Deep without having some Scottish pop content. Since I am such a sweetheart, I pestered Francis Macdonald (Shoeshine Records, Radio Sweethearts, Teenage Fanclub, etc.) until he pawned me off onto Duncan Cameron who manages Speeder who then sent me some press about Speeder and a CD sampler of the bandıs singles.
In addition to being such a sweetheart, I'm also honest. Let's just say at first listen, my socks were still firmly on my feet. Then I found myself singing "Hey, What Do I Know" at work under my breath. So I decided to listen again. And again. And again. And now I'm hooked. While I only have three songs to go on for this review, I'd say that I now get to add Speeder to my list of Scottish (rather, Glaswegian) bands.
Of course being from Glasgow and having that Francis guy in the band at first has caused a lot of press comparison with Teenage Fanclub. However, I think Speeder is very much their own band. The lyrics have a very different style from any Fanclub song and if I heard this band randomly on the radio, I definitely wouldn't say, "Hmm, sounds like Teenage Fanclub."
So, this is a good review, and aren't we just all happy that I gave them a good review - it's not what Chunklet would've done...
Live Review
Within my first couple of months living in Glasgow I saw Speeder play four times. Then never again (Glasgow ain't like Athens where the same bands play over and over). When I first saw them it was in my first or second week in Glasgow. I knew hardly anyone and being a bit of a shy creature I was nervous about going out. But after getting directions from a friend, I set out to the 13th Note Club. Duncan kindly had me on the guest list and I sat downstairs for s while when Jamie (guitar) came up to me and introduced himself. We went upstairs and met the rest of the band (Scott, vocals, guitar; Martin, bass; Stuart, drums) as well as Duncan (manager, dad). I remember liking a couple of songs of the support band and then being very pleased that Speeder came across stronger live than the wee CD I had. These shows will be reviewed in more length in Un-Deep 4, set to be out sometime in the future. In the meantime, keep an eye out for Speeder's first album, Karma Kids.

Here's a wee picture of half of Speeder (Scott & Martin) from the Glasgow Green Festival. I ganked this off of the web so I don't have a photo credit.
